On Friday 24 February 2017 the Commanders of Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) Rear Admiral Axel Deertz (DEU) and Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group Two (SNMCMG2)Commander Aleksander Urbanowicz (POL) visited Hellenic Fleet Command Headquarters where they had discussions with the Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Fleet, Vice Admiral Ioannis Pavlopoulos HN and his staff, on ongoing activities of the Hellenic Fleet and issues of common interest in NATO framework. They had the opportunity to visit Submarine HS MATROZOS, Fast Patrol Boat HS RITSOS which will be deployed with SNMG2 to support its activities to stem refugees flow in the Aegean Sea and Frigate HS SALAMIS, where they met ship’s crews and were informed on ship’s capabilities.
Consequently, a joint exercise of surface units was planned in order to conduct mine countermeasure and counter asymmetric threats training.
