Hellenic Naval Police

History

The Hellenic Naval Police, founded on 1 February 2005 after the Aegean Naval Command and the Votanikos Naval Police Department were merged, is located at Skaramangas Naval Fort and is under the command of the Hellenic Naval Training Command, within the following organizational framework:

Administrative Management: Hellenic Naval Training Command
Operational Command: Hellenic Navy General Staff
Operational Control: Hellenic Naval Training Command
Logistic support: Kanellopoulos Naval Base

Mission

The mission of the Hellenic Naval Police is to carry out surveillance of its area of responsibility on the following matters:

a. An on-the-spot investigation regarding cases of traffic accidents, in which vehicles of the Hellenic Navy are involved and there is no injury, in order to record the conditions of the traffic accident, for the administrative evaluation of the respective case by the Hellenic Navy services in charge.

b. The inspection of the implementation of those determined/specified by the regulations of the Armed Forces, pertaining to order, discipline and conduct of the military personnel, as well as the circulation of the vehicles of the Hellenic Navy, in order to achieve the Administrative Control and safety of the military personnel and material.
