History

  • The HS ARMATOLOS is the first of a class of two gunboats built by the Hellenic Shipyards at SKARAMANGAS, Athens.The second ship of the class is HS NAVMACHOS. The design of the class was based upon the OSPREY-55 offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) by the danish company DANYARD.
  • HS ARMATOLOS was officially commissioned for the Hellenic Navy on March 27, 1990.
  • The first hellenic warship to bear the name “ARMATOLOS” was the corvette PT-42 (1948-1976). The name honors the brave fighters during the national revolution of 1821.
  • The first Commanding Officer of HS ARMATOLOS was Lieutenant Commander Th.Geroukis HN.
