Andreas Miaoulιs (1769-1835) was born in Hydra; he was the son of Demetrios Vokos, shipowner and eminent figure of the island. From an early age, he was involved with shipping and commerce, and managed to accumulate a very large fortune.
During the Hellenic Revolution he was elected as Admiral of the fleet of Hydra, and till 1827 he was regarded as the commander of the Greek fleet. He participated in numerous naval battles of such as the naval battles of Patras, Spetses, Gerontas, and of Samos.
Under Bavarian regency, in old age, he was given honorary titles and positions, such as state councilor and general inspector of the fleet.
