Rear Admiral Sotirios Tsamilis was born on the 27th of May 1967. He initiated his duty as  Hellenic Navy Inspector General on the 15th of March 2024.

He started his career in the Navy as a Naval Cadet on the 9th of September 1985 and graduated from the Naval Academy in 1989 as an Ensign (Engineer).

He has served in Frigates of the HN Fleet in several positions including two years as Deputy Mechanical Engineering Officer (DMEO – Second in command Engineer) and three years as Mechanical Engineering Officer (MEO – Chief engineer).

He has also served as:

• Deputy of D Branch Director and D Branch Director of Frigates Command (Frigates Chief Engineer).
• Assistant and Director of the S Frigates Mid Life Modernization Programme.
• D2 Director of the Fleet command (major repairs, modifications and hull). 
• Programming Director of the Technical Department of Salamis Naval Base.
• Hellenic Navy Liaison Officer in Rolls Royce Factory in Ansty Coventry UK.
• G Branch Director of the Naval Training Command (infrastructure).
• Deputy Director of the Technical Department of Salamis Naval base
• D Branch Director of the Fleet Command (Fleet Chief Engineer).
• D1 Director of Hellenic Navy General Staff (ship’s hull and mechanical systems, fuels, naval aviation)

On the 10th of March 2020 he was promote to Commodore and served for three years as G2 Director of Hellenic National Defense General Staff (infrastructure, environment).

On the 15th of March 2023 he started his one year service as D Branch Director of Hellenic Navy General Staff.

On the 3rd of March 2024 he was promoted to Rear Admiral
