Crest
The crest depicts an Athenian trireme on the top left section of it and a cluster of a propeller, an anchor and a missile on the lower right section. The trireme is historically linked with the Battle of Salamis, not only because the Greek fleet consisted of ships of the specific type, but also because it took place in the sea region close to the Naval Base. The propeller, the anchor and the missile denote the contribution of the Naval Base to the seaworthiness and combat effectiveness of the Hellenic Warships.
Technical Characteristics
History
The ship is water carrier. Built on 14 June 1963 in Jadewerft, Wilhelmshaven for the German Navy. The ship named FW3 received on April 22, 1976 by the Greek party Commanded by HN officer Vice-captain S. Fokas PN. Launched on October 15, 1963 is intergraded the German fleet on May 11, 1964. Ship is conceded by the German fleet to the Greek navy on April 22, 1976. The first captain was commander A. Doumouras PN. It joined the Greek fleet on June 8, 1976 and the ship was officially received dy HN and renamed YF KERKINI on April 22, 1976. The ship’s international call sign is SZEE and her side call sign number is A433.
