Technical Characteristics
History
- Tug ship HS AIAS I (Α-412) was built in USA in 1945, named as ANKACHAK (YTB-501).
- It has been received by the Hellenic Navy in July 1972 and has since been assigned to the auxiliary ships of the Navy’s Logistics Command, remaining in commission to this day in Souda Naval Base, named as HS AIAS . In March 2022, it has been renamed to HS AIAS I.
- HS AIAS I is suitable for any work in and out of port, as well as for towing / submarine handling aid, due to the rubber protective parts it has on its reefs.
- Her name comes from Aias the Telamonious, a mythical king of Salamis Island and one of the most famous heroes of the war of Troy
