Official Visit of the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff to India

From Monday 16 to Thursday 19 February 2026, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS), Vice Admiral Dimitrios Eleftherios Kataras HN, paid an official visit to India, following an invitation by his counterpart, Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi.

During his visit, the Chief of HNGS laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi and subsequently proceeded to the Ministry of Defence (South Block), where he was welcomed by the Chief of the Naval Staff of India, Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi. Their meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, as well as on the progress of the significant cooperation and interaction between the two Navies, following the Indian Chief’s respective visit to Greece in 2024.

Thereafter, the Chief of HNGS met with the Defence Secretary, Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, the Vice Chief of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh, and the Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor.

The Chief of HNGS also visited the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), headquartered in Gurugram, where he was briefed on the Centre’s mission and activities in the field of maritime security and information sharing.

Additionally, the Chief of HNGS travelled to Visakhapatnam, home to the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of the Indian Navy. He attended the International Fleet Review 2026 (IFR), held in the presence of the President of the Republic of India, H.E. Droupadi Murmu.

Finally, the Chief of HNGS attended the opening session of the International Conference conducted in the framework of Exercise MILAN 2026. The theme of the day was “United Oceans: Strengthening Regional Cooperation for Maritime Security and Advancing Sustainable Development.”

All meetings were held in a particularly warm and cordial atmosphere, reaffirming the mutual intention to further enhance cooperation between the two Navies, within the framework of the substantive strategic partnership between Greece and India.
