Official Visit of the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff to Israel

From Monday, June 15, to Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras HN, paid an official visit to Israel at the invitation of his counterpart, Vice Admiral Eyal Harel.

During the visit, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff visited the Haifa Naval Base, where he was briefed on the operational capabilities and missions of the Israeli Navy. He toured surface combatants and submarines, as well as facilities of a Special Operations Unit.

As part of the visit, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff received briefings on lessons learned from recent operations, the current strategic and operational situation, and the development plans for the capabilities of the Israeli Navy.

During their bilateral meeting, the two Chiefs exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on contemporary maritime security challenges, freedom of navigation, and developments in the broader Eastern Mediterranean region. Special emphasis was placed on further strengthening cooperation between the two Navies with the aim of promoting regional stability and security. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in the fields of naval operations, innovation, and emerging technologies.

Additionally, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff traveled to Jerusalem, where he visited the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem. During the visit, he met with His Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine, the Ambassador of Greece to Israel, Ms. Maya Solomou, and the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem, Mr. Demetrios Angelosopoulos.
