Technical Characteristics
History
- Tug ship HS ATLAS (Α-430) was built in 1974, in MARINETTE MARIΝΕ CORP Shipyards, in WISCONSCIN, USA and before having been received from the Hellenic Navy, it had been operating in the American Naval Base of ST.STEFANO, Sardinia, named as PETALESARO (Y-832).
- It has been received by the Hellenic Navy on the 2nd of January in 2008 and has since been assigned to the auxiliary ships of the Navy’s Logistics Command, remaining in commission to this day in Souda Naval Base.
- HS ATLAS is suitable for any work in and out of port, as well as for towing / submarine handling aid, due to the rubber protective parts it has on its bow and its reefs.
- Her name comes from the titan ATLAS who according to the ancient Greek mythology, was punished to hold the sky after the clash of titans.
