History

HS PERSEAS (former R/V VIKING VISION) was built in 1993 at the Naval Gijon Shipyards in Spain as a fishing vessel. In 2007, she was converted into a seismic research vessel at the Westcon Yard AS shipyards in Norway. Thereafter, the vessel, owned by the Norwegian company Eidesvik Offshore ASA under the name Viking Vision, conducted seismic surveys in open seas and oceans until 2016.

In 2023, the vessel was purchased by the company Laskaridis Shipping. On October 9, 2023, she was donated to Hellenic Navy and the Greek flag was raised. On April 15, 2024, the vessel was operationally integrated into the Fleet Headquarters and the Frigates Command, assuming the role of a General Support – Special Operations Vessel with the following main operational roles:

  1. Afloat Forward Operations Base (AFOB) for Special Operations.
  2. Training Vessel.

On June 11, 2024, the naming and commissioning ceremony of the ship took place.
