MACHITIS (Ρ 266)

Τhe central depiction of the shield is the dynamic figure of the gunboat MACHITIS (P-266) at maximum speed. The Greek flag, flying proudly on the mast, symbol of her mission to project her colours throughout the eastern Aegean and wherever she is called upon, but also of the defence of her natural space, i.e. our borders. Scattered in the blue sea Aegean islands, Greek places that she honours and is honoured whenever she is there for the rest of her crew. Finally her eastern course always vigilantly watching and looking towards the enemy, ready to take action with a full view of the area she patrols.

History

She is the second ship of the Navy to bear this name. The first was a British N/A offshore, Canadian-built WWII class “Algerine” which joined the Navy on 31-03-1951 and was decommissioned on 28-02-1974.
