Rear Admiral Stefanos Sarris HN was born in Athens, Greece on February 11, 1969. He entered the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1986 and he graduated in 1990 with the rank of Ensign.

He was promoted to:

–  Lieutenant Junior Grade (OF-1) in 1993

–  Lieutenant (OF-2) in 1997

–  Lieutenant Commander (OF-3) in 2002

–  Commander (OF-4) in 2010

  –  Captain (OF-5) in 2018

–  Commodore (OF-6) in 2024

–  Rear Admiral (OF-7) in 2026

His early fleet operational tours include assignments as Operations & Weapons Officer on board Destroyers. 

He served as the Commanding Officer (commissioning crew, Skaramagas GR) of the Gun Patrol Boat AITTITOS (2004-2006) and the Commanding Officer of the Frigate ELLI (2016-2018). 

From May 2020 to June 2021 he was appointed as the Commander Hellenic Frigates 1st Squadron and among other missions he participated twice in NATO Operation Sea Guardian as the Commander Task Group (CTG 440.03) during Focused Security Patrols (FOCOPS) 20-6 (24 November – 9 December 2020) and 21-2 (11 March – 1 Apr 2021).

He has also served as:

–  Staff Officer to the Operations Directorate in the Hellenic Fleet Command

–  Aid-de-Camp of the Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Fleet

–  Division Head in the Operational Evaluation (OPEVAL) Directorate of the Hellenic    Fleet Command

–  Section Head of Operations in the Hellenic Navy General Staff

–  Deputy Head of Operations Planning Division (N52) at NATO Maritime Command (MARCOM)

–  Division Head of Scheduling & Planning in the OPEVAL Directorate of the Hellenic Fleet Command

–  Division Head of Operational Planning Division of the Hellenic Fleet Command

–  Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Frigates Command

– Section Head of HNDGS/D3/2 (International Relations and the desk officer for GRC-USA bilateral military cooperation)

– Director of A΄ Branch in the Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS) – Head of Naval Operations, Plans & Policy, Naval Intelligence and Communications 

On the 21st of January 2026, he assumed duties as the Commander of the Naval Training Command

He is married and has a daughter.
