In 1950 Italy handed over to Greece the Italian-built Cruiser Eugenio di Savoia, which was renamed Elli in June 1951. The handing over of the Cruiser was realized on the basis of the Paris Peace Conference of 1947 and the Greek-Italian Economic Agreement of 1948 in compensation for the torpedoing of the light Cruiser Elli in Tinos on August 15, 1940.
In 1951, Elli became the flagship and headquarters of the Chief of the Fleet in place of G. Averof and during 1953-1958 she was employed for the official visits of the King abroad. Later she moved her base to Souda Bay, where she hosted the headquarters and hoisted the flag of the Admiral of the Cretan and Ionian Seas.
Cruiser Elli was decommissioned in 1965 and sold for scrap in 1973.
