Hellenic Navy Tactical Training School (H.N.T.T.S)

The School’s crest consists of a complex of anchor, wings, cannon and torpedo, symbolizing all forms of warfare and combined operational action, which is the School’s fundamental training object.

History

The Hellenic Navy Tactical Training School (H.N.T.T.S) is directly subordinate to the Fleet Headquarters. It was founded in 1963 and it is located inside the Skaramangas Naval Base.

Initially it was hosted in Kanellopoulos training center facilities, inside the Skaramangas Naval Base. The reason for its establishment was the necessity of having a simulation system for the training of Commanders and naval Officers in making quick decisions on the battlefield, which would serve both national and allied needs. The installation of the first British-made ACTION SPEED TACTICAL TRAINER (A.S.T.T.) simulator (REDIFON) was completed in 1964. In 1982 the School moved to its current facilities and – in an effort to adopt cutting edge computer aided technology- a new advanced technology Tactical Simulator (A.S.T.T.) was installed. In 2010, the obsolete simulator was uninstalled and HN staff was assigned to develop a modern naval tactical simulator that would meet the future demands of naval training. Indeed, in 2015, H.N.T.T.S was delivered two complete versions of a tactical simulator: one version for the training of HELO/MPA Controllers and another one, which simulates the conduct of all kinds of warfare operations on a warship, thus upgrading the capabilities provided to the training of the Hellenic Fleet personnel.

In June 2022 the inauguration of the new AIRCO DEPARTMENT and the auditorium “Admiral Ioannis Toumpas” took place. The AIRCO DEPARTMENT has a Tactical Simulator for the exclusive training of HELO/MPA Controllers. The auditorium, with its modern audio-visual systems and a capacity of 166 people, provides the possibility of hosting and conducting a multitude of activities such as schools, lectures, meetings, workshops, etc.
