Conference of Chiefs of European Navies CHENS 2025

The Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras HN, participated in the annual Conference of Chiefs of European Navies (CHENS 2025), held on Wednesday, May 7, and Thursday, May 8, 2025. The Summit was organized by the Latvian Navy in the city of Riga.

The CHENS Summit is an open communication forum aimed at promoting cooperation and exchanging opinions among the Naval Chiefs. The main theme of this year’s CHENS was the emerging role of unmanned systems in the maritime environment.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy held a private meeting with the Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and U.S. Naval Forces Africa and the Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples (JFC Naples), Admiral Stuart B. Munsch, as well as his French counterpart, Vice Admiral Nicolas Vajour.

Additionally, he met with his counterparts from Germany, Vice Admiral Jan C. Kaack, and Slovenia, Captain (N) Andrej Pecar, with whom he discussed issues of mutual interest and prospects for further development of bilateral cooperation. He also met with the Commander of NATO’s Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), Vice Admiral Mike Utley.

The next CHENS 2026 Summit is scheduled to be held in Spain.
