History

Commander Georgios Blessas WAS BORN ON January 01, 1905 in Lixouri, Kefalonia. He enlisted as Naval cadet at Hellenic Naval Academy on September 03, 1919. He graduated and commissioned Ensign RN on December 29, 1923. His last promotion was on December 29, 1923. He served as Officer and Captain on many ships during his career. He was killed on September 26, 1943 as Captain of the anti-torpedo warship ‘’Vasilissa Olga’’ (‘’Queen Olga’’), fighting against an enemy German air attack in Lakki area of Leros island. he was awarded the Medal of the Golden Phoenix and the Military Value 3rd grade Medal.
