Naval Training Command

Crest

The crest of the Naval Training Command depicts a torch, which represents the knowledge and ideals that  distinguishe the Officers and Petty Officers of HN. The ancor and the trident represent the navy and the sea.

History

Since 1920 the supervision of training had been assigned to a Rear Admiral, who was named Supervisor of Junior Naval Training in 1926 and later on he was named Senior Commandant of Schools and was stationed in Poros. In 1939 the Senior Command of Schools was replaced by the Naval Training Headquarters, the Commandant was a Rear Admiral and its responsibilities were assigned to the newly formed Training Centers PALASKAS and KANELLOPOULOS. During the first years of its operation, the Headquarters had the following services under its command:

  • Naval Training Headquarters Staff
  • Hellenic Naval Academy
  • Auxiliary Ship PALASKAS and Auxiliary Ship POROS
  • Hellenic Naval Tactical Training School
  • Auxiliary Ship ARMATOLOS and Auxiliary Ship CHATZIKONSTANTIS
  • Underwater Operations Training Center
  • Piraeus Naval Recruitment Office

Initially, the Naval Training Headquarters Staff were housed in the newly built Naval Fort Skaramangas (1939).

In 1969 the service was renamed Training Command and in 1970 it was renamed Naval Training Command.

In 1999, as the building, which was already old, suffered severe damage due to an earthquake, the relocation of the Naval Training Command to the old building of the Officers’ Club was deemed necessary.
