Official Visit of President of the State of Israel Reuven Rivlin at the Hellenic Fleet Headquarters in Salamis Naval Base

On Wednesday January 31th 2018, the President of the State of Israel Reuven Rivlin visited the Hellenic Fleet Headquarters in Salamis Naval Base, where he was accompanied by the Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos, the Chief of HNDGS Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis HN and the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Nikolaos Tsounis HN.

During his visit, the President has been briefed about the activities of the Hellenic Navy and the bilateral military cooperation. Subsequently, he saluted the crew of the Frigate SALAMIS. Among others, at his speech he praised the role and the quality of the Hellenic Fleet in the passage of ages and emphasized the importance of the Maritime Power in achieving national objectives.

Afterwards, he embarked the Fast Patrol Boat DANIOLOS and sailed the Gulf of Salamis, where the historic battle took place in 480 BC, between the Greeks and Persians, before his disembarking at the Port of Piraeus.

The President of the State of Israel was accompanied by the Israeli Ambassador Ιrit Βen Αbba, the Israeli Naval Commander Vice Admiral Eli Sharvit and high ranking officials.

It is noted, that it was the first visit by a head of state, at the Hellenic Fleet Headquarters.
