Participation of the HNGS Chief in the 11th Regional Sea Power Symposium – RSS 2017 in Venice

From Tuesday October the 17th to Friday October the 20th, the HNGS Chief, Vice Admiral Nikolaos Tsounis HN, participated in the 11thRegional Sea Power Symposium – RSS 2017, which took place in Venice.

The HNGS Chief was selected by the organizers as a key speaker participating in a panel with the Chiefs of the Navy of USA, UK, Japan, Germany, and Egypt presenting the theme “Maritime Capacity Building”.

The HNGS Chief pointed out the importance of the Souda Naval Base and the crucial role of the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre – NMIOTC providing high quality services not only to NATO countries, but also to other countries that wish to upgrade their naval capabilities.

The HNGS Chief also mentioned that the Hellenic Navy and NMIOTC have developed a comprehensive toolbox, primarily based on the targeted training and the high level of evaluation, and is available to all the Navies that want to make use of.

Within the Symposium, the second official meeting of the Navy Chiefs (CHONs) of the member states of the Navies of Adriatic-Ionian Initiative – ADRION took place and a common declaration for the further enhancement of their cooperation was signed.

The HNGS Chief had a meeting with the new Commander of the US Naval Forces in Europe and Africa, James G. Foggo III USN, during which the enhancement of the bilateral cooperation in the Mediterranean Sea was discussed.

Moreover, the HNGS Chief had the opportunity to discuss issues of mutual interest with other counterparts.
