Spanish Training Ship Sails at Piraeus Port

From Friday 25 February to Tuesday 01 March 2022, the Spanish training ship «JUAN SEBASTIAN DE ELCANO», sailed in Piraeus, port during her training cruise.

On Monday 28 February 2022, a ceremony for the unveiling of a monument, dedicated to the Greek sailors who participated in the circumnavigation of the world by Magellan, took place at the premises of the Aegean Naval Command. The ceremony was attended by the Spanish Ambassador Mr. Carles Casajuana Palet, Rear Admiral HN Ioannis Pattas, Commander of the Naval Training Command, as the representative of the Chief of HNGS, Officers of Hellenic Naval Academy, the Aegean Naval Command and the Spanish training tall ship, as well as delegations of Greek and Spanish cadets of their respective Naval Academies. Following the event, a “Regatta” sailing competition was held, with the participation of Cadets/Midshipmen from Greece and Spain, in Faliro Bay.

While in Piraeus, the Captain of the training ship Captain Manuel Garcia Ruiz and the Defense Attaché of Spain in Greece, Captain Juan Escrigas Rodriguez, paid ceremonial visits to the Hellenic Naval Academy and the Aegean Naval Command.
