History

The Gunboat HS POLEMISTIS is the second of the two gunboats which was built by Hellenic Shipyards Skaramangas S.A. under contract with Hellenic Navy. The construction of the Warship took place at the facilities of Hellenic Shipyards Skaramangas according to the plans of the Department of Naval Architecture and is based on improved designs of the Danish class “OSPREY” (HS ARMATOLOS, HS NAVMACHOS). The keel of the vessel was placed at Hellenic Shipyards Skaramangas in 1992 and in 1993 the launching of the vessel was performed. The raising of the Greek flag was carried out on 16-06-1994 and the HS POLEMISTIS joined the Fast Boat Command on 31-10-1994. On 01-11-2002 the HS POLEMISTIS changed command and joined the Surveillance Vessels Command.

Since the ship’s activation until today, HS POLEMISTIS has undertaken a series of missions, mainly in the islands of the Eastern Aegean, concerning the surveillance and protection of the Aegean islands, contributing to the defense of national sovereign rights, the promotion of the Greek Flag and the maintenance and enhancement of morale in the border areas of the Aegean. In addition, she has participated in numerous large, medium and small scale drills of the Fleet, as well as in social benefit missions (Planned Preventive Medicine, Olympic Flame Transfer to Eastern Aegean ports, Operation Ifitos – Security of the Olympic Games 2004).
