A Charles F. Adams-type destroyer, Kimon (D-218), was built in the USA and was launched in 1961 joining the US Navy. In 1992, after almost 30 years, Kimon sailed in the naval base of Salamis. Commander D. Kallergis was her first Commanding Officer. The ship formed part of the Hellenic fleet till 2004, when she was decommissioned. The crest of Kimon depicts the bust of the homonymous Athenian general and politician, who established Athenian dominance over the Hellenic world. According to Plutarch, Kimon combined the honesty of his father, Miltiades, the prudence of Themistocles, the straightforwardness of Aristides, and the will for progress of Pericles.
