Emblem
The emblem of the 1st Helicopter Squadron includes a seahorse which, in combination with the submarine at the bottom, symbolizes the helicopter’s capability for anti-submarine action. It also includes a drawing of the helicopter and a lightning bolt in the centre, a symbol of attack and immediacy/readiness
General
The mission of HNHS /1 is to act within the limits of the orders and directions of the FHQ and HNAC, for the organization, command, training, maintenance and repair of material and generally for the readiness and preparation for war of the Flying Assets it possesses, in order to ensure the ability to undertake projects in peace and war, which are derived from the mission of the FHQ and from the current planning of the Navy.
HNHS /1 was established in 1997 and operates the AB-212 ASW. At its inception it originally consisted of AB-212ASW, AB-212EW and Alouette III helicopters. AB-212EW and Alouette III helicopters were decommissioned in 2004 and 2013 respectively.
Since the delivery of these types of helicopters, more than 70,000 flight hours have been flown, to date.
