On Tuesday, December 12, 2024, a “LIVEX” Standby Unit Activation Exercise was conducted within the Operation Sea Guardian, in the maritime area of the Myrtoan Sea.
HS ATLAS I participated by simulating a suspicious merchant vessel, HS DANIOLOS by carrying an Unconventional Warfare Team of the Underwater Demolition Command. A Fast Reaction Unconventional Warfare Boat, a Hellenic Navy Aviation Helicopter and a Special Operations Command and Control Element (SOCCE), which are on standby for NATO’s OSG under the operational control of Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) also took part in the exercise.
The purpose of the exercise was to improve the Command and Control system and assess the readiness level of NATO-assigned Forces to counter illegal activities in the maritime domain. The main objective of the exercise was to carry out a non-consensual inspection of a merchant vessel of interest.
