History

Air-Cushion Landing Craft (PTM), type – KEFALONIA (Russian name ZUBR – NATO name POMORNIK), the largest in size air-cushion landing crafts in the world and constitute the fourth generation of air-rush vessels. PTM KEFALONIA is the first PTM to be received by the Hellenic Navy. It’s Russian’s origin and design according to the program 12322 with Serial No: 104. It was built in 1993 at the shipyard of the company ALMAZ in St. Petersburg and was given to the Russian Navy in 1994 under the number 717. In 2000, a contract was signed between Greek and Russian sides according to which all the vessel’s systems would be completely repaired with main retrofits to the oil cooling systems of the main engines, the addition of two additional air conditioning systems and the addition of two electrical power converters. In October to November 2000, the inspections of the vessel on board (harbor trials) and at sea (sea trials) were carried out in St. Petersburg, Russia. The official receipt of the ship by the Hellenic Navy and the raising of the Greek Flag took place on January 22, 2001, with Commander Lieutenant Ch. Zisimopoulos HN.
