Crest
The Crest of HS KRATEOS contains both the ship herself, while underway, and various islands of the Aegean Sea, thus describing her main task which is to safeguard the territorial integrity and the national interests of Greece. Moreover, the flag proudly hoisted on the mast, demonstrates the determination and the devotion to the cause. HS KRATEOS stands ready for action, day and night, with calm and rough seas, wherever and whenever required, in order to accomplish every task undertaken.
Technical Characteristics
History
HS KRATEOS is the fourth MACHITIS class (HSY-56A) Gunboat, designed and constructed entirely in Greece. HS KRATEOS was built by Hellenic Shipyards SA (Scaramangka Shipyards) and commissioned on the 20th of October 2005. Since her commission and until today, she was deployed to missions mainly on the islands of the Eastern Aegean Sea and has participated in numerous exercises scheduled and directed from Hellenic Fleet Command, national operations in the eastern Aegean Sea and national exercises and operations. In addition to operational missions, HS KRATEOS has also participated in ceremonial events (such as Liberation of Chios and Lesvos islands) and other social service missions (such as Preventive Medical Program). Lieutenant Commander Eu. Kyriakidis HN was the first Commanding Officer of HS KRATEOS, supported by Lieutenant Junior Grade K. Choutos HN acting as Executive Officer and Lieutenant Junior Grade N.
