She is the first of the five tank landing ships that were built at Elefsina Shipyards on the order of the Ministry of National Defence. She was launched on September 29, 1987 and handed over to the Hellenic Navy on May 20, 1994, with the first Captain being Commander M. Kapsalas HN.
