Rear Admiral Panagiotis Papageorgiou HN
HNDGS
Rear Admiral Panagiotis Papageorgiou PN was born in Athens on October 6, 1967. He entered Naval Academy in 1985 and graduated as an Ensign in 1989.
His operational service includes assignments onboard Destroyers (DD), all Naval Mine Warfare Vessels (MSC, MHC and ML), Landing Ships (LST) and Frigates (FFG) of the Hellenic Fleet as Navigation Officer, Operations Officer (OPS) and Executive Officer, while he assigned as Commanding Officer onboard MSC ALKYON, MHC KALLISTO and FFG KANARIS.
He has been assigned as Department Head in Organization Branch of Hellenic Fleet Command, in Operations Branch of HNGS (HNGS/A3), in Human Resources Directorate of Ministry of National Defense (MND/GDOSE/DADP), and in NATO-EU Defense Policy Directorate of Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS/D4), as Director in Personnel/Career Directorate of HNGS (HNGS/B3), as Director of Personnel and Career Branch in HNGS (DBK/HNGS) as well as Director of Organization Branch in HNDGS (HNDGS/B3). He also been assigned as Director (Branch Head) at HQ SACT, specifically in the Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (SPP). From 2008 to 2012 he served to the cabinet of the President of the Hellenic Republic, as Aide – de – Camp.
He has been assigned as Commander of the 2nd Mine Countermeasures Flotilla and Commander of Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2 (SNMCMG2).
In January 2025, he was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral and was appointed as Director of the Personnel Branch (B Branch Director) of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS).
He has attended all officers’ schools of Hellenic Navy and Armed Forces, including the National Defense School (NDS).
Finally, he holds a Master’s Degree from the Department of International, European and Regional Studies of Panteion University, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University ISABEL I (Universidad Isabel I) of Spain.
He has been awarded with all the Medals and Decorations of the Hellenic Repuplic provided for his rank, as well as Commemorations of participation in Multinational Operations.
He is married and has two children.
