Rear Admiral Pierros Kontodios HN was born in Athens in 1969. He was admitted to the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1986 and graduated in 1990 as Ensign (Eng) of the Hellenic Navy.

His operational service includes assignments on board surface vessels, almost exclusively on MEKO class frigates, as a Junior Engineer Officer, Damage Control Officer, 2nd Engineer, Director of Electronics Department as well as Marine Engineer Officer.

He has also served in the Naval Detachment of the Hellenic Navy in Hamburg Germany during the construction phase of HS HYDRA, as a member of her crew, as well as in the Hellenic Navy Detachment in Skaramagka Shipyards in Greece during the construction phase of HS SPETSAI.   

His staff assignments include Branch Head of Electronics Department in the HN Fleet Headquarters and Branch Head of Electronics Department in the HN Logistic Support Command, Staff Officer and Director of Surface Ships Division in the Armaments Directorate of the HN General Staff, as well as Head Of Engineering Branches of the HN Logistic Support Command and the HN Fleet Headquarters. Last but not least he served as the Director of D’ Branch (Head of Engineering Branch) of the HN General Staff. 

From 2011 to 2014, Rear Admiral Pierros Kontodios HN has served as a Staff Officer Engineering Engineering Operations at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE NATO), Mons (Belgium). In addition, from 2019 to 2024 he has served at the General Directorate for Defense Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defense, as the Head of Navy Armaments Programs & Contracts at the Directorate of Defence Programs and Principal Contracts and as the Director of International Relations. 

In February 2025 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and assumed the duties of the General Inspector of the HN.

He holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering obtained by the US Naval Postgraduate School, in Monterey, CA (NPS).

He holds all of the Hellenic Armed Forces’ Decorations and Medals up to his rank.

He is married and has two sons.

He speaks English fluently.
