On April 22, 1941, while patrolling near the Saronic islet of Lagoussa, Destroyer Hydra was attacked by German airplanes. One hour later, she sank, taking along with her to the deep C.O Theodoros Pezopoulos, 3 officers, 11 petty officers and 26 seamans.
She had been named after the island of the Saronic Gulf that played a significant role in the Greek War of Independence.
