Admiral George Giakoumakis HN
Admiral Georgios Giakoumakis HN, was born in Chania, Crete, on June 29th, 1959. He joined the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1977, he was commissioned as Ensign of the Hellenic Navy, July 1981 and then he was specialized as a Communications Officer.

His sea duty assignments include various tours. He served mainly on Frigates as Communication, Weapons and Executive Officer, as well as on Destroyers, Fast Attack Craft-Missile boats and Patrol Boats.
He has served as Commanding Officer of Patrol Boat DOXA and Frigate KANARIS, as well as Commander of Patrol Boats Squadron and Commander of the 1st Frigates Division.
His shore and staff assignments include service at various posts within the Frigate Command, Fleet Command, Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS), Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS), Commander of Athens Multinational Sealift Coordination Center, Director of Naval Weapons Directorate in Salamis Naval Base and Director of Operational Evaluation Directorate in Hellenic Fleet HQ.
As Commodore he assumed duties of Director of Weapons and Infrastructure Division of HNGS and Director of Defense Planning and Programming Directorate of HNDGS. As Rear Admiral he was assigned Deputy Commander in Chief of the Fleet, Deputy Commander of the Hellenic National Defense College and Commander of the Naval Training Command. Promoted to Vice Admiral, he served as Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Fleet.
On September 15th 2015, he assumed duties of Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff.
He has been awarded with all the medals, decorations and commendations stipulated for an officer of his rank and seniority.
He is a graduate of the Hellenic Naval War College and the Hellenic National Defense College.
He holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering obtained by the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Monterey, CA (USA).
He has participated in Operations “Desert Shield” and “Desert Storm” in the Persian Gulf.
He is married and has one son.
