Admiral Kosmas Christidis HN

Admiral Kosmas Christidis HN, a native of Larisa, Greece, was born on December 24th, 1957. He graduated with honours and at the top of his class from the Hellenic Naval Academy and was commissioned as Ensign of the Hellenic Navy in July 1980.

His sea duty assignments include various tours. He served mainly on Destroyers and Frigates as Communications, Electronic Warfare and Operations Officer, Weapons Officer and Executive Officer. In support of UN resolutions, he participated in Mediterranean deployment with the NATO Standing Naval Forces (NAVCOFORMED, STANAVFORMED, SNMG) conducting operations “Sharp Guard” and “Active Endeavour” and moreover to the Persian Gulf as part of Operations “Desert Shield” and “Desert Storm”.

His shore tours include appointment as Senior Staff Officer to the Hellenic Fleet, Armaments Directorate, as Director of Naval operational Resources and Plans (charged with the projects of the operational modernization of the “Standard” frigates and Fast Patrol Boats) as well as Fleet Personnel Branch. As a Captain he was Commander Sea Training to the Operational Evaluation Directorate. During this appointment he was responsible for the operational training and certification of Hellenic Navy ships. He has also served as National Deputy in NATO Seasparrow Project Office, leading the international group of ESSM Requirement Panel.

His career has included Command of Fast Patrol Boat HS KAVALOUDIS and Frigate HS PSARA. He had been appointed as Commander of Hellenic Frigates 1st Squadron, Commander of Souda Naval Base, Commander of Hellenic Frigates and Support Ships Command, as well as Chief Of Staff at the Hellenic Navy Logistics Command.

He was promoted to Vice Admiral and appointed as Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff on November 1st, 2011

Vice Admiral Kosmas Christidis HN is a graduate of the Hellenic Naval War College, the Hellenic National Defence College and owns a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School (Monterey, CA, USA).

He is the author of the Air controller Handbook (1983) and an Electronic Warfare Principles manual (2005)

He has been awarded with all the medals, decorations and commendations stipulated for an officer of his rank and seniority, including those resulting from his participation in peacekeeping operations in Adriatic and the Red Sea.

He is married to Sophia and they have two children.
