Staff and Command Course (NCOA Graduates)

  1. The Hellenic Naval War College Administration announces that a Staff and Command Course for Officers originating from Non-Commissioned Officers’ Academies will be conducted at the College’s facilities from 14 September 2026 to 2 November 2026, namely for thirty-seven (37) training (working) days.
  2. Foreign Naval Officers who are graduates either of Greek Military Non-Commissioned Officers’ Academies (in particular Naval Academies) or of the corresponding institutions of their country of origin, may also participate in the above mentioned course, subject to approval by the Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS). Attendance is free of charge in the form of a partial scholarship, while the number of foreign students participating shall be determined by the HNGS.
  3. Upon request and approval by the HNGS, a full scholarship may be granted to one (1) student, including free accommodation and meals.
  4. The language of instruction of the course is Greek.
  5. Qualifications for participation:

           a. Adequate knowledge of the Greek language for the requirements of the training in question.
           b. Adequate knowledge of the English language for the requirements of the training in question, namely at least a “Good” level (B2), according to EU standards.
           c. Holding a rank equivalent to that of the other participants, namely Ensign (OF-1) or Sub-Lieutenant (OF-2), originating from Non-Commissioned Officers’ Academies, regardless of specialty.

6. The purpose of the training is to provide effective command and staff education, postgraduate specialization in naval science and strategy, as well as information on new developments and interdisciplinary concepts related to the Armed Forces, with the aim of preparing Officers to perform staff and administrative duties upon assignment to designated positions, according to their rank and specialty.

7. According to the training regulation, the educational subjects taught at the School are divided into the following training sectors:

           a. Sector “A”: Administrative Training (Leadership – Management – Executive Administration – Decision Making).
           b. Sector “B”: Staff Training (National Security and Defence Planning Issues – Principles of International, European and Domestic Law – Special Issues of Staff Specialization / Information).
           c. Sector “C”: Principles of Naval Power and Strategy – International Relations Issues.
           d. Sector “D”: New Technological Developments – Issues of Special Interest to the Hellenic Navy.

8. Students are evaluated on a scale of one hundred points (1–100). A score below 50% is considered a failure. More specifically, graduates are classified according to the following grading scale:

            a. “A” : 95 – 100% — Excellent
            b. “B” : 75 – 94.99% — Very Good
            c. “C” : 60 – 74.99% — Good
            d. “D” : 50 – 59.99% — Fair
            e. “E” : 0 – 49.99% — Fail

9. Reasons for dismissal of a student are:

               a. Unsatisfactory performance in the course, namely obtaining a score below 50%.
               b. Absence from the course for a period exceeding one fifth (1/5) of the total course duration, namely seven (7) working days.
               c. Failure to comply with the School regulations.

10. Graduates who successfully complete the course are awarded a Staff Officer Diploma, as well as the corresponding HNWC graduate insignia.

11. Interested foreign Officers, fulfilling the above criteria, are requested to complete the attached participation application form, as well as indicate whether they wish to be granted a full scholarship (free accommodation and meals), and send it via the designated channels, to the Hellenic Naval War College, no later than 31 July 2026.
