Rear Admiral (MD) Antonios Papageorgiou NF was born in Athens in 1960.
He is a graduate of the Varvakeios Standard School (1977) and in 1978 he was admitted to the Medical Department of the Hellenic Military Academy.
He finished his studies at the School of Medicine of the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki in June 1984 and in October of the same year he was assigned to the Naval Forces and was named Ensign (YI) of the Naval Forces.
He served in various services of the Naval Forces such as: F/C LIMNOS, NNK, ANYE (member), Assistant to the Staff of the Directorate General, Staff of the Directorate of Defense (1995-1996, 2003-2005, 2012-2014), NNA.
He received the specialty of Vascular Surgery (1995). He trained at the Vascular Surgery Clinic, 2nd Surgery Clinic, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Aretaiio Hospital (prof.: P. V. Dimakakos) and at the Cardiovascular Clinic University Hospital of Zurich, Dir.: Prof. M. Turina).
He was the first doctor in the Greek area and by extension in the Armed Forces and the Naval Forces who was trained and received, the established in 1989, independent specialty of Vascular Surgery and founded the Vascular Surgery Clinic of the Athens Naval Hospital (1995).
He was the Director of the Vascular Surgery Clinic until September 2018
In 2001 he retrained in Endovascular Surgery in Belgium (Imelda Hospital, Dir.: Dr Peeters).
He has actively participated in many Greek and International Conferences either as a speaker or as a chairman and coordinator in round tables, and several of his announcements have received honorable mentions (Best Free Paper Awards).
He has been president of Scientific Societies related to the specialty (Hellenic Vascular Society, Hellenic Phlebological Society, etc.) and as a result he has organized Panhellenic Scientific Conferences with inernational participation.
Currently he is President of Hellenic Phlebological Society.

In June 2016 he was appointed Director of the Medical Service, in July 2017 Head of the Surgical Department, in March 2018 Director of the Medical Service, and in March 2019 he was appointed Deputy Director of the Athens Naval Hospital.
In March 2020, he was promoted to Commander-in-Chief (MD) and assumed the duties of ANYE President.
In March 2021, he assumed the duties of Director of the Athens Naval Hospital.
In March 2022, he was promoted to Rear Admiral (MD) and assumed the duties of Director of the General Directorate of Health.
He speaks English and German.
He is married and has two children.
