Vice Admiral Polychronis Koulouris HN

Commander in Chief of Hellenic Fleet

Vice Admiral Polychronis Koulouris HN was born in Thessaloniki in 1966. He joined the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1984 and graduated with distinction in 1988 as Ensign of the Hellenic Navy.

His operational service includes a long period of sea service on board Frigates. In 1993, he attended the Naval Flight Officers course in the USA and later on he was assigned as TACCO on board P3B ORION of the Hellenic MPA 353 Squadron.

He has assumed the duties of Commanding Officer of FFGH HS PSARA and MS HS THALEIA. His duties as Captain include the COMHELFRIGRON 2 Command and at the rank of Commodore the Command of the Hellenic Frigates.

His staff assignments include tours in the HNGS as the Current Ops Section Head, Department Head of Policy and Strategy and Deputy Director of Armaments Directorate.

In 2008 he was posted in the NATO MCC HQ Naples.

In 2017 he was posted as the Defense Attaché of Greece in the UK and Ireland.

In April 2021 he was assigned as the Director of International Relations at the GDDIA.

In March 2022 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and assumed the duties of the Deputy Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Fleet.

In March 2023 he assumed the duties of Commander of the Naval Training Command.

In January 2024 he was promoted in Vice Admiral and assumed the duties of the Fleet Commander.

He is a graduate of the Hellenic Supreme Joint War College and the Hellenic Navy Staff Officers College.

He has a MSC in Human Resources Management from the Athens University of Economics &Business (AUEB).

He holds all the Hellenic Armed Staff Decorations and Medals up to his rank; he also possesses the following Decorations and Medals: Participation in UN Peace Keeping Operations Medal, NATO Article 5, Medal of King Fahd (foreign medal) and the Medal Kuwait (foreign medal).

Vice Admiral Polychronis Koulouris HN is married and is the father of a son.

He speaks English.
