Vice Admiral Stylianos Petrakis HN, Chief of the HNGS participates in the 24th International Seapower Symposium

From Monday 13 to Friday 17 September 2021, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS), Vice-Admiral Stylianos Petrakis PN, participated in the 24th International Seapower Symposium, which was held in Newport, Rhode Island, USA.

 

The purpose of the International Seapower Symposium (ISS) is to provide a forum for senior international naval leaders to discuss common maritime challenges and opportunities to enhance international maritime security cooperation.

 

The 24th ISS was attended by 103 national delegations from around the world. This year’s title was “Strength in Unity” while the agenda included two main topics related to combating the COVID-19 pandemic and the International Security Implications of Climate Change. Furthermore, separate forums took place with special thematic sections “Sea Power in the Information Age” and “Maritime Security in the Rule-Based Order”.

 

The Symposium gave the Chief of HNGS the opportunity to make several bilateral contacts with counterparts from other Navies.

 

On the margins of the symposium, Admiral Petrakis met with the Consul of Greece in Boston, Mr. Stratos Efthymiou, as well as with Hellenic Navy Officers, studying at educational institutions and universities of the USA.
