Rear Admiral Theocharis Chatzopoulos H.N. was born in Piraeus in 1967. He joined the Naval Academy in 1985 and graduated in 1989 as an Ensign.
His military education and training include the Hellenic Navy Weapons Officer Course, the US Navy Combat Systems Officer (CSO) Course, the Hellenic Navy War College, the Hellenic Armed Forces Supreme Joint War College and the Hellenic National Defense College.
His sea duty assignments include tours of duty on Destroyers and Frigates as Navigation, Weapons and Executive Officer. He holds FOST experience as XO and liaison officer of frigates undergoing BOST syllabus. He was also appointed with 2 Commanding Officer tours of duty, as a Lieutenant Commander on a Gunboat and as a Commander on a Standard Class Frigate. Most recent at sea appointment as a Frigate Squadron Commander.
His staff appointments include the following tours of duty: in the Hellenic Navy General Staff as staff officer in the Weapons Engineering Directorate and twice in the Armaments Directorate, in the Hellenic Fleet HQ as staff officer in the Operational Evaluation Directorate and CINCHELFLEET Private Office Director, in Salamis Naval Base as Director of Naval Weapons Engineering Directorate and twice in the Hellenic Military Representation to the NATO Military Committee in Brussels as staff officer for Defense Planning, Maritime Ops and Maritime Standardization issues and as the Deputy Military Representative. Most recent ashore appointment as HN’s Detachment in Lorient France Commander in charge of supervision of FDI HN shipbuilding program.
He has been awarded with all the medals, decorations and commendations stipulated for an officer of his rank including UN Peacekeeping Operations Medals.
He was promoted to Rear Admiral in 2024 and was assigned the duties of Deputy Commander to the Hellenic National Defence College.
He is married and father of three children.
