An aeronautical joint Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) was conducted on Wednesday, July 8th, 2020, in the sea area south of Limassol, Cyprus with the participation of Naval units, assets and personnel from Greece, Cyprus, France and Italy.
In particular Greece participated with the Frigate “KANARIS” and Cyprus with Patrol Ships “TSOMAKIS”, “GEORGIOU” and “AMMOCHOSTOS”, the offshore ship “IOANNIDIS”, helicopters from the Air Force Command of the General Staff of the National Guard and Air Operations Unit of the Police, and furthermore with assets from the Port and Naval Police of Cyprus and the Research and Rescue Coordination Center. Additionally France participated with Frigate “ACONIT” and Italy with Frigate “ALPINO” along with their helicopters.
The purpose of this exercise, which was scheduled and coordinated by the General Staff of the National Guard in collaboration with the General Staffs of National Defense of the participating countries, was the training of the participants in Search and Rescue missions (SAR), as well as the enhancement of the level of cooperation among them.
